Stone Massage

Hot Stone Massage

The hot stone massage has to be the perfect treatment on a cold winter’s day! As with all our treatments, you will be given a full consultation prior to treatment to ensure you get a massage that is tailored to you as an individual. Basalt stones are heated and then placed on areas of the body such as at the lower back and beneath the shoulders. You will feel the heat gently penetrate the towel and into your body leaving you in the realm of ultimate relaxation before the massage itself begins. More heated stones are then used to massage the body. The heat relaxes the muscles, allowing the therapist to work deeper, so although the massage is very warming and relaxing, you can be sure this treatment will be doing your body the world of good!

But it’s not just hot stones that can be beneficial! Cold marble stones can also be used during treatments to reduce inflammation, pain and swelling. They can be used with alternate hot stones to stimulate and relax the area being worked, which in turn increases circulation. The cold stones are particularly beneficial for the face to relieve headaches, clear sinuses and help eliminate dark circles.

Semi-Precious Stones for Crystal Healing

Semi-precious stones may be used during your stone massage by being placed on the 7 chakras, helping to re-balance the energy flow.

When the treatment is complete you will be given tailored aftercare advice so you can be sure you get the maximum benefit from the treatment moving forward.

Origins of Stone Massage

The history of hot stone massage and stone therapy dates back thousands of years across various cultures and countries, including Europe, China, India, Africa and Egypt. Written history has shown us that heated stones were used to improve the functioning of the organs and to relieve pain, while cold marble stones have been cited to be used to slow bleeding.

In the early 1990’s stone therapy was made popular in the West by Mary Nelson. Today, the treatment is used not only as a deeply relaxing one, but one with many health benefits too.
